Initial research (UPDATED)

 Initial research

For my Art Portfolio 2 project I am creating a supermarket in Cromwell, Connecticut, USA, in order to rebuild the town after a horrible incident.

The main purpose of my supermarket is the customers  satisfaction and in order to understand their needs I am going to study the demographics of the town in the coming blogs. To meet the needs of the customers I will Provide a wide variety of high-quality products at affordable prices , and making sure customers  have pleasant shopping experience . For that reason I have been given a brief for the purpose of the design, and the floor plan of the building. According to the brief the building needs to include Car Parking and Trolley drop off, Deliveries/Drop Off, Delicatessen, Bakery, Restaurant - including food preparation area, Clothing and Homeware, Checkouts - Self Service and Tills (including packing area), Offices - administrative/maintenance/security, Staffroom - including kitchen area, Restocking Warehouse, Staff and Customer toilets (including baby changing).

Another important point I am considering in creating this supermarket is sustainability by using eco friendly materials for the construction, and including tree planting in the outdoor space

In sequence of attracting customers interest and adding value to my supermarket, I decided to adopt innovative design for the aesthetic pleasure and functionality. To attain that I am looking at Jhon Pawson's designs for his minimalistic innovative work.

To have an Idea about concepts I am looking at Casa delle Bottere, Italy by John Pawson

The reason I chose to study this project is the simplicity and tranquillity it brings, when observing the house it made me feel stable, balanced, comfortable, and far from confusion that some pieces may bring to the watcher these are the elements I am requiring in the making of my supermarket

"The dart-like volume of this family home in the Veneto region of northern Italy is set within a deep excavation, creating a single storey above ground" J. Pawson,(2017 reported by M. Zanta, 2017).

In order to increase safety in my supermarket I thought of creating only one level in case of another incident in the town, also thinking in a realistic way I had to consider some coast efficiency since a single storey requires less complex construction techniques.

With all of this being said, I will continue generating and developing my ideas in the coming blogs.

  1. This is quite minimal and I am unsure why I am reading this as it does not state how this relates to your work
