Final major project – environmental architecture

Subject Area:  Architecture

Project Title: Meditation house

Project Aims and Objectives:

For my architecture project I have decided to design a modern house that is going to have traditional Algerian touches . I will keep some old features such as a well , natural light sources (open roof ) .The house will be situated in Algiers , so it really goes with the idea of a traditional house keeping pace with the modern era we live in .This project will be done by the end of the year.

I will be researching the following architects

-Andrew Skurman : an american architect , classical architecture for modern life

Digital software used

I will be using sketchup and photoshop to make and edit the plans

Architect that ispire me

Andrew Skurman is an American architect born in new York 1953. He received his Bachelor of Architecture in 1976 from Cooper Union in New York City,   Skurman s architectural expertise lies in the elegant and refined expression of Neoclassical architecture and the interpretation of French, Georgian, and Mediterranean architectural styles.

project aims and objectives

for this project I will be designing a house inspired by the classical architecture of Andrew Skurman and the Algerian culture , this is why we will use sustainable and local materials . traditional materials are everywhere in Algeria , and since my country is on the way to growth and development , new , modern materials can be found easily . the government is working on reducing carbon emissions . making buildings more energy efficient through modern construction techniques are the basis of realising the goal . this project is helping the industry to reach the target  For this project I had to look for a relevant , time bound and an achievable idea I decided to create   a healing house, which is a quiet place to enjoy peaceful, calm moments. The goal is to relive stress and make one feel better away from the distractions e.g. food, phones and talking. I intend to add some innovations to an already existing house.

The inspiration is to have connection with the nature outside and use see through glass, so that the house would be a living world. Another aspect to the project is to include gardening as an activity that can be done in the house. Gardening, will help boost an individuals energy and at the same time makes the house look good, adding a meditation spot inside and out. For this project I will create 4 design boards, using sketch up and photoshop. The project will be completed by early December.
